Due to unstable ground conditions in the new location, the architects designed a floating mat system rather than using pilings. The mat system measured 54’ wide, 102’ long, and 18" thick, complete with 32,000 pounds of re-rod. The building itself weighs over 570 tons. nautical. Naturally, this home is a reflection of that. Among the many maritime references, our favorite is the Chris-Craft guest room. For the basement, a special treatment of 17,000+ feet of reclaimed barn wood was requested by the owner to give the feel of a dive shop.This home is energy efficient with spray foam insulation, Loewen triple pane windows, and a high tech geothermal system to heat the exterior and interior concrete – even the generator pad is heated. We also installed a four story commercial elevator. To supply this house with electricity, the electric company installed a 600 amp service. From foundation to finish, this home is a diver’s dream.
